  Marriage is a husband and wife relationship that is voluntarily built by both parties. Husband and wife in this relationship have equal rights and obligations. The marriage is when a man and a woman voluntarily enter into marriage and must ensure the marriage conditions prescribed in the Law on Marriage and Family 2014. However, marriage with a police officer or soldierm you must ensure additional specific conditions due to industry specifics. 1. Conditions for marriage as prescribed by law

To be able to get married, a man and a woman must comply with the marriage regulations in the Law on Marriage and Family 2014 as follows:

  • Men must be at least 20 years old, and women must be at least 18 years old.
  • Marriage must be decided voluntarily by a man and a woman.
  • Men and women do not lose their civil act capacity.

The marriage between a man and a woman does not fall into the cases where marriage is prohibited according to the provisions of the Law on Marriage and Family 2014. Specifically:

  • Fake marriage or fake divorce. Marrying due to child marriage, being forced into marriage by others, cheating on marriage, or hindering the progress of a voluntary marriage.
  • Not to marry a married person or live as a husband or wife with a married person.
  • Not to marry someone of the same bloodline; between people with a three-generation range; between father, mother-in-law and son-in-law, stepfather and stepchild, stepmother and stepchild, parent and adopted child, or father and mother and former adopted child.

2. Conditions for marrying with police officer

  • First, men and women must meet the general conditions prescribed by the Law on Marriage and Family 2014 (presented in Section 1). Due to the characteristics of the police industry, men and women who want to marry a person working in this industry must meet the following additional conditions:

3. Cases of ineligibility to marry a police officer

Conditions for being allowed to marry a person working in the police force are understood as follows:

  • The parents or the man or woman themselves have a criminal record or are serving a prison sentence as prescribed by law.
  • The family or the man or woman themselves are Catholic, Protestant, or Christian.
  • The family or the men and women themselves are ethnic Chinese. Parents or yourself are foreigners (even naturalized in Vietnam). 4. Background checking before marriaging with a police officer

For those who are active and working in the specific field of the police, the marriage requirements are somewhat strict and strict as follows:

  • Before getting married, police officers must make an application to find out about marriage for a period of 3 to 6 months, depending on the emotional level of the two parties.
  • After that, police officers have to make 2 applications, one to the head of the unit, the other to the personnel department. At the same time, a person married to a police officer must declare his/her background for all three generations.
  • The background check sequence is as follows:

Conduct background checks for all 3 generations of people married to police soldiers

  • The first generation, including: grandfather, grandmother (grandfather, grandmother, grandfather, grandmother);
  • Second generation, including: parents, aunts, uncles;
  • The third generation is the person who intends to marry a police officer and his or her brother, sister, half-brother and half-brother.
  • Note: Even if a person married to a police officer is a party member, he must also check his background for 3 generations.
